ZENATO ACADEMY AWARD
at THE OTHERS Contemporary Art Fair
The work of Giacomo Erba from the Stayonboard gallery received an award
The Zenato Academy Award for contemporary photography was awarded to Giacomo Erba (22 years old from Milan) for the series of 5 works "Rizoma" (2022), on the occasion of The Others contemporary art fair in Turin.
“We decided to reward Giacomo Erba - explains Luca Panaro, artistic director of the Zenato Academy - for the originality of the artistic proposal, an investigation into photography and nature with a scientific approach. We believe in the creativity of young artists and the awarded work stands out for its unusual iconography, which opens up new research perspectives on the photographic image."
“We are happy to reconfirm our presence at The Others for the fourth consecutive year with the Zenato Academy Award for contemporary photography – declares Nadia Zenato, the Venetian entrepreneur who with her family company exports the prized labels of Lugana and Amarone -, sharing the experimental slant with the exhibition and having the common objective of intercepting the contemporary language and valorising emerging realities".
Giacomo Erba, born in Milan in 2001, is a visual artist who attends the "New Technologies of Art" course at the Brera Academy of Fine Arts.
Through the Zenato Academy Award, now in its fourth edition, the works Alinea 04 by Daniela Droz, Notturno 009 from the “Notturni” series by Carola Allemandi, Serie Balloon by Enrico Smerilli have been acquired over the years and have become part of the Collection of the Zenato Academy.
Zenato's commitment to supporting contemporary art also extends to the sponsorship of Yayoi Kusama's exhibition. Infinito Presente, one of the most iconic works by the Japanese artist, from the collection of the Whitney Museum of American Art in New York, which can be visited from 17 November 2023 to 24 March 2024 at the Palazzo della Ragione in Bergamo".
Also in November, will inaugurate in Bergamo Città Alta the photographic exhibition Wine. Beyond: objects, landscape, portrait, photography, a collective with a selection of the works of 20 authors from 4 international photography schools who participated in the Zenato Academy project, born in 2018 as a permanent laboratory for study and experimentation in the cultural field, and in particular in the photographic field.
The students of the 4 schools involved from year to year, starting from the Academy of "Belle Arti di Brera" in Milan, continuing with F/16 in Berlin, FMAV – Scuola di Alta Formazione di Modena and SVA – School of Visual Arts in New York, each worked on a different macro theme: objects, landscape, portrait, photography, and were invited to interpret the given theme in an original way, in the desire to go "beyond" traditional iconography through power imaginative of photography.
